Brand truth is stored as scoped elements: facts, rules, context and qualitative boundaries. Each one carries a knowledge state, a scope, its sources and a machine-readable value contract. For a given task the compiler resolves which element applies, or it fails.

Retrieval answers the first question. OBDS answers all six, and keeps the answer. That is the difference between looking something up and making a governed decision.

A prohibition is not a knowledge state. It is an explicit RULE with its own scope, its declared enforcement and its declared validation method. That is the only path a brand has to forbid something, and it is the reason a block can be traced back to a decision instead of to a missing value.

The semantic key. Elements that compete for the same meaning declare the same subject. Similar names or values never imply it.

Qualitative direction usually dies as a list of adjectives that every brand could claim. A Semantic Boundary keeps it structured and machine-readable: one subject, one quality, what it is, what it is not, and the trade-off the brand has already settled.

A missing positive trait is not a violation. Strong evidence of an is-not trait may support a material conflict and send the result to review. Only a separate applicable RULE turns that conflict into a compliance violation. Keeping the two apart is what stops qualitative direction from silently becoming a blocking checklist.

Sources are consolidated once into an approved Brand Manifest. A Build Plan names the target and the moment in time. The compiler resolves scope, verifies that required truth exists and emits one Compiled Brand Context. Runtime builds the model input from that artefact and from nothing else.

OBDS holds no pixel coordinates. It holds what a composition is made of, what must never be dropped, what has to keep its distance, and how values combine. A renderer produces one solution inside that space. A validator proves the solution stayed inside.

That is a signal, not a proof. What it suggests is narrow and useful: an unfamiliar implementer can infer what the contract is for and work inside it. Late review cycles increasingly surfaced canonicalisation and interoperability defects rather than confusion about the architecture. Those were the ones worth fixing. The result proves the declared conformance suite passes. It proves nothing about how any particular model behaves in production.

Foundation conformance does not depend on one vendor, one model or one database. Vendor extensions stay optional and namespaced. Breaking semantics require OBDS 2.0. The specification is CC BY 4.0 and the implementation layer is Apache 2.0, so an independent implementation needs no permission and cannot be cut off. Section 11 has the detail.

The Foundation and the profile mechanism are stable enough for independent implementations to build against. OBDS 1.1 is the independent-implementability release. It adds governedResultHash, the value two implementations must agree on for the same manifest and build plan, and leaves artifactHash and its meaning untouched. Precedence, the scope vocabulary, the tokenizer, the validator registry and the build failure codes are now defined rather than inferred. The OBDS 1.0.0 contract surface remains frozen and byte-identical across 1.0.0, 1.0.1, 1.0.2, 1.0.3 and 1.0.4. OBDS 1.1 adds one versioned contract beside it and changes none of them.

Every schema resolves at the address printed inside it. brand-manifest.schema.json declares /schemas/1.0.0/brand-manifest.schema.json and is served from exactly there. The publication map proves the mapping is one to one for all 32 public contracts. 1.0.1 did not move them: the schema contract is still 1.0.0.
